Maximize Your EV's Efficiency and Save Money
The Basics
Maximizing your electric vehicle's (EV) efficiency can extend its range and save you money, especially with rising energy costs. Simple driving techniques can make a significant difference.
Why Efficiency Matters
Higher efficiency means fewer charges, less energy consumption, and ultimately, lower costs. It also contributes to the vehicle's overall performance and lifespan.
How to Measure Efficiency
Efficiency is often measured in miles per kWh. The higher the miles per kWh, the more efficient your EV is. You can track this metric through your EV's onboard computer or a specialized app.
Tips for Increasing Efficiency
Smooth Acceleration: Quick acceleration consumes up to 50% of the energy. Smooth driving can extend your range.
Maintain Speed: Lower average speeds, like 50mph instead of 60mph, can increase your range. Consistent speed is key.
Lighten the Load: Remove unnecessary items from the trunk and back seats. A lighter car requires less energy.
Strategic Route Planning: Use apps like Waze to avoid traffic jams and stop-and-go situations, which can drain your battery faster.
Anticipate Traffic: Being aware of the road conditions ahead can help you maintain a steady speed, reducing the need for sudden acceleration or braking.
Regenerative Braking
Many EVs come with smart regenerative braking systems. Utilizing this feature can put energy back into your battery, extending your range.
Cold Weather Impact
Cold weather can reduce your EV's range. Driving efficiently can help mitigate some of this loss.
Real-World Impact
Applying these tips can result in noticeable improvements. For example, a test with the Kia Niro EV showed an increase from 3.6 to 3.9 miles per kWh after implementing these tips.
Final Thoughts
Efficient driving not only extends your EV's range but also contributes to its longevity and reduces your overall energy consumption. It's a win-win for both your wallet and the environment.
F1/Nascar Roundup
Max Verstappen
Lando Norris
Carlos Sainz
In what is becoming nauseously boring at this point… Max Verstappen won yet again at the U.S. Grand Prix. Verstappen secured his 50th career win and third victory in the United States this season at the Lenovo United States Grand Prix. Despite battling persistent brake issues, Verstappen crossed the finish line just over two seconds ahead of Lewis Hamilton, whose three-stop strategy nearly paid off. Both Hamilton and Charles Leclerc were disqualified post-race due to worn wear-planks, but Verstappen avoided any penalties. Lando Norris finished in third place, adding another podium to his season. With this win, Verstappen extends his lead in the driver standings, further solidifying his dominant season.

October 23, 2001: Toyota Unveils the Scion Brand
This week, we're diving into the archives to commemorate the launch of Toyota's Scion brand. Aimed at attracting a younger demographic, Scion was unveiled on this day in 2001. Though the brand was eventually discontinued, its innovative marketing strategies and unique car designs have left a lasting impact on the automotive industry
The Birth of Scion
Scion was Toyota's ambitious attempt to capture the youth market. Recognizing a gap in their offerings for younger, more budget-conscious consumers, Toyota launched Scion to offer affordable yet stylish and customizable vehicles.

The “Stylish” Scion xB…
Targeting the Youth
Scion broke new ground in marketing, being among the first automotive brands to fully utilize social media and grassroots campaigns. The brand also collaborated with popular musicians and artists, creating a lifestyle that resonated with its target audience.

The Cars
The brand launched with models like the xA and xB, which were compact but offered ample room. These vehicles were highly customizable, a feature that particularly appealed to younger buyers. As the brand evolved, it introduced sportier options like the Scion FR-S, a rear-wheel-drive sports car that gained a cult following for its performance and affordability. This one fit the bill much more in our personal opinion.

The Impact on the Industry
Though Scion was discontinued in 2016, its legacy lives on. Some Scion models were even rebranded and continued under the Toyota name, such as the Scion FR-S becoming the Toyota 86.

As we look back on the history of Scion, we celebrate not just a brand but a game-changer in automotive design and customization. Scion may have been short-lived, but its influence continues to be felt in the industry today.
Industry Insights
GM, Cruise, and Honda have announced a joint venture to launch an autonomous ride-hailing service in Japan by early 2026. The service will use the Origin vehicle, co-developed by the three companies and manufactured in the U.S. Japan presents a significant market opportunity due to high taxi demand in its large cities, ongoing driver shortages, and a need for accessible transportation. The Origin vehicle allows for six passengers to sit face-to-face, offering a new, comfortable travel experience. The venture aims to address societal needs and business opportunities in Japan's densely populated cities.
The 2024 Chevy Blazer EV is experiencing markups of up to $10,000 at dealerships, attributed to high demand. The electric SUV, available in four trims, had its first models shipped in July. The base 1LT model has been dropped, making the 2LT the cheapest variant at $56,715. Both the 2LT and RS models qualify for a $7,500 EV tax credit. However, some dealers are listing the Blazer EV RS for as much as $70,215. The markups come as other automakers like Tesla and Ford are cutting prices or offering new incentives on their electric vehicles.
